Marty, are you listening?

There's not too much I could write here that Brighton Beach residents haven't already said about Marty Markowitz' proposed potato-chip amphitheater at seaside Park. It will greatly disturb the neighborhood. It will destroy the park. There's hardly any available parking as it is. It's a ridiculous way to spend $64 million when vital city services are being cut.

But I do have a question: Marty, why aren't you listening?

You didn't even show up at the Community Board 13 meeting at which your proposal was discussed. The aide you sent in your stead ludicrously used the June 24 meeting to give out "attendance awards" to the board members - including one for a member who didn't attend the meeting to pick up his attendance award (sounds something like a Saturday Night Live skit, doesn't it?)

The aide, Andrew Steininger, Markowitz' capital budget and policy specialist, then handed out flyers that didn't even refer to the project as an amphitheater - it was nicely called the "Asser Levy-Seaside Park Rehabilitation Project"

Asked by Bay Currents why Marty didn't show up, Steininger said the borough veep didn't want to come to a meeting where everyone was just going to shout at him.

I'm sorry, Marty, but you've got it backwards. The residents are shouting at you because YOU'RE NOT LISTENING! You're steamrolling ahead with this boondoggle even though no one except you can come up with one thing positive about it. And the so-called positives that you have come up with are as flimsy as a potato chip.

The performers need bathrooms? Give me a break! If that's a problem, you can install potties at the existing bandshell - and I don't think it would cost anywhere near $64 million.

It will create jobs? Give me another break! Construction will generate a handful of very temporary jobs, and maybe there will be a few ushering and ticket-selling spots. That's a $64 million jobs program?

The project will improve the park. No, it will destroy the park. If you want to renovate the benches, playground, and the rest, you can do it for far less than $64 million - and without occupying the green space.

On top of everything else, Marty, you're thumbing your nose at city law, which specifically bans concerts or other loud events near houses of worship when they're in session. Friday and Saturday nights are key concert nights - as well as key nights for services at not only one, but two synagogues right across from the site.

If you're really interested in expanding the existing Summer Concert series, it can be easily done at KeySpan Park. Or, if you really have to build a new theatre, you could locate it at the amusement area of Coney Island.

The attendance-award winning members of CВ 13 are not helping matters very much, either. At the tumultuous June 24 meeting, with resident after resident stating their disgust, frustration, and fears, the board took no action whatsoever, not so much as a resolution. Sure, the community hoard has no veto power over the project, but it could send a message to Marty and the city that residents don't need or want this amphitheater.

Отвечая на вопрос, почему не показывается Марти, был ответ, что глава боро не хочет присутствовать на заседание, где каждый собирается на него накричать.
Я сожалею, Марти, но на Вас жители кричат, потому что ВЫ НАС НЕ СЛЫШИТЕ! Ваш проект никто не поддерживает.

Вы катитесь вперед с этим несерьезным делом, несмотря на то, что никто, кроме Вас не говорит что-то положительное об этом проекте.

Исполнителям нужны туалеты? Если это разве проблема, установите эти штуки - и я не думаю, что это будет стоить около $64 миллионов.
Проект будет создавать рабочие места? Строительство создаст горсточку временных рабочих мест, и, возможно, потребуется несколько швейцаров и продавцов билетов. И это $ 64-хмилионная программа занятости?
Данный проект позволит улучшить парк? Нет, он разрушит парк. Если вы хотите обновить скамейки, детскую площадку и все остальное, вы можете сделать это гораздо за меньшую сумму, чем $ 64 млн. - и без того, чтобы занимать зеленые газоны.
Кроме всего прочего, Марти, городские закона, специально запрещают концерты или другие шумные мероприятия возле храмов, когда в них проходят службы. В пятницу и субботу проводятся основные концерты, и в это же время проходят службы  сразу в двух синагогах, расположенных напротив парка.
Если вы действительно заинтересованы в расширении существующей серии Летних концертов, то это можно легко сделать KeySpan парке. Или, если вам действительно требуется построить новый театр, вы можете расположить его на площади аттракционов Кони-Айленда.

После того, как на собрании 24 июня жители выразили свое отвращения, разочарования и страха, Совет предпринял действий не в том объеме, как  принято в резолюции. Конечно, сообщество, проживающее в округе, не имеет права наложить  вето на проект, но оно может направить сообщение Марти и городской администрации о том, что жители не нуждаются и не  хотят этого амфитеатра.
